Thank you, Chuy - I feel ashamed because, while I wasn't vitriolic, I definitely giggled and thought it was terrible dancing. But everything you say here helps me understand it what is really happening. I love improv and that's something that is awkward as hell. I would take watching someone commit to a weird ass character that they really are inspired to play over some dude trying to be funny any day. (Trying to be the funniest on stage is usually a dude thing, in my experience, and it kills improv theatre.) As usual with this substack...I've learned something important! Ok I said I giggled... I mean...I totally laughed at some of the memes. My sister texted me a clip and asked, "Is this you!?" And that made my giggle. Some of the stuff she did was objectively goofy/funny...paired with her outfit (which I think might have been mandated cause the Australian B-boy had a similar get-up) I can totally see why she has went viral. But like that tweet says, “Each day on Twitter there is one main character. The goal is to never be it." And what's wild to me is the ANGER in which some are bringing. I've read comments (from non-breakers) saying she should be ashamed and banned from all Breaking events, that SHE is why Breaking is not going to be in the LA Olympics (the decision was made even before the Paris Olympics started), and one truly bizarre comment from a former olympic cyclist who said, " I feel the value of the Olympian brand has been severely diminished by this spectacle." This dude literally found her IG and commented this on a random photo of hers. Like geeeze people, lighten up, they act like the Olympics never had solo synchronized swimming or hot air balloon races lol.
